CHOQUEQUIRAO TREK 5D/4N

ITINERAY

Day 1: CUSCO - CACHORA - COCA MASANA - PLAYA ROSALINA

We will leave Cusco by bus early in the morning at 4:00. We will arrive to town Cachora around 7:30 a.m. Here we shall enjoy our breakfast and meet with our wranglers. We arrange our equipment on the mules, and horses.

We start our day with a two hours hike to Capuliyoc (2,915 m/9,564) from where we can enjoy our first beautiful views of the Apurimac Valley stretching out below and the snow-capped peaks of Padrayoc and Wayna Cachora above. Then we descend toward to Coca Masana (2,330 m/7,644 ft) where the climate becomes noticeably warmer and the flora and fauna begin to change. Finally we arrive at Playa Rosalina (Rosalina Beach) (1,550 m/5,085 ft), right beside the raging Apurimac River, where we will set up camp and spend the night.

Day 2: PLAYA ROSALINA – CHOQUEQUIRAO

The second day is the toughest one of our 5-day hike. After an early breakfast, we climb a steep trail. Our five-hour hike will take us to Raqaypata beside the Chunchullumayo River, where we will enjoy a late lunch and a well-deserved rest. Along the way, we will have the chance to see orchids, wild flowers, and a number of colorful birds. From Raqaypata to Choquequirao (3,035 m/9,957 ft) hiking time takes two hours. When we arrive to Choquequirao archaeological site we have time to enjoy the sunset and maybe have the opportunity to see condors flying nearby. Our campsite will be just outside the Choquequirao ruins.

Day 3: CHOQUEQUIRAO – RAQAYPATA

We will be dedicated to exploring the incredible Choquequirao archeological complex. Our guide will explain the history and importance of the site and afterwards we will have free time to visit the various sectors of the archeological complex. Late in the afternoon we will start the return trek and we will make camp at Raqaypata

Day 4: RAQAYPATA – CHIKISCA

After breakfast we start our return journey. We steep descent down to the Apurimac River where we will stop and have lunch. In the afternoon, we will climb fabout four hours to reach our campside at Coca Masana.

Day 5: CHIKISCA - CACHORA – CUSCO

On the last day of our track we pass a canyon where the Apurimac River flows.. We will have an impressive view of the canyon from Wayna Qalli - considered to be one of the most spectacular in South America. We will ultimately arrive at Cachora and take our bus back to Cusco.

IMPORTANT

The camp sites are designed and operated by the Peruvian Government. The spaces are limited by the INC (National Institute of Culture). The camp sites mentioned befote in the programme are referencials.
Since the year 2000, the Peruvian Government regulated the Inca Trail (5, 4 or 2 days). The number of visitors are limited. Only 500 people per day (including Guides, porters and cooks )can hike on it This is the reason and has the high priority to book in advance, to guarantee a place on the date you want to leave. For Inca Trail treks in the high season (June, July, August and September) it is advisable to book at least 4 months earlier.
